Sadly, our much loved Chorus Master, Sue Hollingworth is leaving after 17 very happy years, and therefore the Grimsby Philharmonic Society is seeking a chorus master to commence in September 2020 “The Grimsby Phil” Formed in 1852, we are one of the area’s leading choral societies, performing a wide variety of classical and modern music. We are a mixed, non-auditioning choir of about 80 members. We usually perform three concerts a year, mainly in the magnificent setting of the Central Hall, Grimsby. Under her inspirational leadership, the “Phil’ is now tackling exciting works by contemporary composers whilst not forgetting the favourite classics. We welcome applicants from a wide range of candidates and are looking to engage an energetic, enthusiastic, committed person with a sense of humour. The ideal candidate will hold a recognised qualification in music (e.g. at diploma or degree level) ideally with a specialism in conducting or choral direction, or have experience of working with choirs. As we employ professional soloists and orchestras for our main concerts, the successful candidate will have the ability to conduct an orchestra. The closing date for applications is November 30th. Successful candidates will be shortlisted for an interview with a subcommittee and an audition which will involve taking part of a rehearsal on a Monday evening, the work to be determined by the committee.
